I joined the St. Felicitas School Board as a parent representative with the hope that we can work together to maintain the educational standards of this great school. My role on the board is to represent the Mission Effectiveness Committee. This committee ensures, with help and ideas from parishioners and parents that the school lives up to the diocesan Catholic Schools’ mission.
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Life Science from St. Xavier’s college in Mumbai, India and a Masters in Neurophysiology from Bombay University. In search of an independent life with greater opportunities for women, I moved to the United States for my Ph.D. studies at Florida State University in Tallahassee. As an academic at various universities, I found that the learning skills and work habits young people have when they arrive at college are skills they should develop during early school years. As a scientist, I recognize that children are natural scientists, born with inquiring minds and the drive to learn. I wish to contribute to preserving this attitude in young people with a strong educational foundation at St. Felicitas, with its talented and experienced teachers, and dedicated parents.
I now reside in San Leandro with my husband Gary Baker and our daughter. To relax from my research at Genentech, I like to sing, read, run and swim. With my family, I enjoy gardening, cooking, birding, diving, hiking and camping.
